Legalising prostitution is such a huge topic to be discussed on whether it should be legalised or not. The advantages and disadvantages after doing so, however it seems to be more of the disadvantages side on the negative impacts. The country that legalised prostitution should be consider the harms these laws cause.
First of all, it allows sex trafficking to be done easier. legalised prostitution is one of the root cause of sex trafficking. Almost 80% of prostitutes in the brothels in Netherland, the country that legalised prostitution are from other country and 8 out of 10 of prostitutes in German sex industry were trafficked from eastern Europe. Legalising prostitution in the country make anti-trafficking enforcement nearly impossible to be abolished.
Talking about the economic, it is true that the government might gain the taxes from legalising it but those taxes are most likely will be spent on eliminating trafficking of sex immigrant and health expenses from prostitutes who get HIV or STDs that sure have highly risk on transferring these diseases because condoms are not always effective and securely to protect 100%. It could be slipped off or broke while having sex. So even though the affirmative side will include the fact that condoms will sure be used but still, prostitute have much higher rate to get infected than people who do normal jobs. Also the business man (pimp) who has never pay the taxes before it legalised, will be displease and led to more underground sex business to avoid taxes.
I am aware that you might say the absent of this law makes people don’t have their freedoms of choice to do what they want. But the real truth behind this is prostitute did not make a choice to enter prostitution. They did not sit-down one day and decided to be a prostitute that they’ve always wanted to be since they were a kid or that they are ambition about it but they have no option. “Freedom of choices” are more like “how to survive”.
Even though providing the law gives government more taxes but if we’re looking at the outcomes the government has to deal with, it’s a big problem. Trading citizen's health issues and immigration problems with increasing taxes? increasing corruption and having human rights in being a prostitute is not a good idea. Also some of the taxes will have to be spend on all these negative outcomes than improve the country. Legalise prostitution can lead to more harm than benefit.
