“To serve people is the aim of our education” is known to be Thammasart university’s famous motto. There might be more meanings to it. In my opinion it states that with the educations provided by Thammasart University, it is aim to produce quality citizenries for industries and organisations that made up for a good society. Which eventually leads to a better country.
I chose to study in the B.E.C. programme which is Business English Communication. On the external side people might consider B.E.C to be one of those ‘hard core business’ programme, but on the internal side we do actually have some interesting courses that aim to develop the country or even solving problems in the community such as TU102 life and sustainability and TU100 civic education.
When I first saw the course layout I knew right away that this is not a generic business course, but actually well planned out. The combination of business knowledge and Social Responsibility are ideal.
I believe that give and take, is the most sustainable kind of business model.
Which is why I chose this programme. Later on when we get into a higher level of Business circle, we’re gonna learn more about CSRs ( Corporate Social Responsibility). Companies that take an active role in promoting their corporate social responsibility programs are generally viewed more favorably than those that do not have highly visible programs. It is something extra that companies do to improve their local and global communities.
Many people assume that contribution to the society is the responsibility of those who are already well settled in life and have nothing else to do. But B.E.C. taught me that a little act of kindness, our goals, and good intention to help the society are more important. Since we have done it from the start of first year.
To summarise, my studies and TU’s motto are very well associated. It builds a conviction within me that by following my own interest, I am actually contributing without actively looking for it.
